My father reminded me frequently to call a spade a spade and I have tried to follow his teaching. Many of your letter writers appear determined to believe that President Trump is not a racist, not a womanizer, not a poor judge of character, not a narcissist, not corrupt, not a liar, not mean or vindictive, not a friend of tyrants nor xenophobic. I have to ask myself whether I may be mistaken in my assessment of him. My expectations of how Presidents should behave are that they bring dignity and poise to the White House, support our friends and allies, grow the economy, decrease our foreign debt, bring comfort to widows of men killed serving their country, look after the poor and the sick and prevent terrorism. I also ask the question whether the President has surrounded himself with a team of like minded, patriotic men and women ready to serve their country and who will go to any lengths to defend that country, support our armed forces, the FBI, the CIA and the Constitution?
I would like to think that The President has accomplished this but the evidence keeps piling up to the contrary. I fear that to change my thinking now could make my spade disappear completely.
