THE TURNING TIDE (9/30)

I am sure everyone can recall the editorial in the AZ Republic, before the 2016 election, declaring that Trump was unfit for the presidency. After three years he has proved this judgment right. Even so, the editors are understandably leery of offending the one million Trump supporters in Arizona. Many of them buy the newspaper. Taking sides could aggravate the present vitriolic partisan divide, which could result in open hostilities. Given the level of gun ownership this is understandable. The fear is that we will lose our cohesion, our will to create a better society. Those fears are groundless. The American people are united by a common ideal, based on freedom, the freedom to say what we believe without fear of intimidation, the freedom to own property and defend it from those who wish to take it away from us by force and most importantly the rule of law. The tide will turn. The ship of state will right itself. Common decency and respect and tolerance will prevail. To quote Kennedy, "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
