Having survived three years of Donald Trump, I am beginning to question whether I know what evil is. There are many examples in literature from Dante's Inferno to Paradise Lost. In history most evil people only look bad in retrospect. Our friend Adolf appeared patriotic, strong and sexy at the time. To some of us, evil people may just seem misguided, over enthusiastic or a bit crazy. Dickens' villains are sometimes lovable - Scrooge, Fagin, Uriah Heap. Donald does good imitations of them all. He will say or do anything as long it promotes himself. He's obsessed with money. His vocabulary is limited and repetitive. He seems to care only about himself and is happiest talking about himself. Is that totally evil though? He does seem to enjoy insulting people. He is also excellent on the humiliation front. He appeals to the worst human instincts in millions of his Twitter followers. But then some people like their worst instincts appealed to because it makes them feel superior. Hating somebody because of their color or creed is acceptable to Trump and since he controls the pulpit, we have to listen. On second thoughts I've changed my mind. Donald Trump is evil. I'm finally admitting it.
