It was a cute idea back in the 1700s. Take an ordinary man off the streets and make him the King for four years. It would show all those European despots what crazy baloney all that kingship stuff was. There were only 13 colonies, no radio, few roads, wooden ships, no trains, no TV no internet. So why not? Well, we're alot bigger now and there have been a few changes in the world over the last 250 years. If you are going to elect a leader who will look after everyone's interests, he or she ought to be reasonably well informed about government, about technology, about the science that got us to this point and surely you want someone who is articulate and can set the tone. Rob Robb's complicated but totally rational plan for improving the election process for Presidential candidates unfortunately stands very little chance of success. A simpler way of improving the chances of having a president who actually knew what he or she was doing, would be to pass the amendment to the Constitution which stipulated that only candidates allowed to stand for President had to have been elected at some time to Congress. Small adjustment but could prevent idiots getting into the White House.
