THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY (1/10)

In my view the British Royals have become an unhealthy obsession in the US. My neighbors grill me regularly on their comings and goings. My American-born wife asks me whether I have watched the latest episode of The Crown. I tell them that as an ex-citizen of the UK, I am utterly indifferent to the to-ings and fro-ings of the Royal household. Royalty is a political anachronism. They should all be made into waxworks or put in a museum or made to go out and make a living. They are of course loved and supported by the land owning classes, the Downton Abbeyists who, in my view, haven't recovered yet from the fall of the British Empire and having made their wealth in sugar, cotton, slavery, and the exploitation of indigenous populations around the globe, are secretly (they would never say it publicly) disappointed that the beloved Prince Harry, son of the beloved Princess Di, an ex teacher's assistant, has married a woman who is not as white as they are. Good for Harry and Megan. Let's hope this is the beginning of the end of Royalty and Her Majesty can join me in my retirement community for 75+ to play a few rounds of dominoes, before we both fall off our perches.
