THE GHOSTS OF MCCARTHYISM (11/27)

It surprises me that after fifty years, the ghosts of McCarthyism still haunt the recesses of the American mind. Hardly a day goes by without a letter or editorial warning us all of the horrors of socialism, about how even the slightest movement towards the left, politically, will destroy the economy, undermine society and bring chaos and revolution to our pleasant land. This red plague would appear to be spearheaded by the terrifyingly beautiful AOC and other women politicians of different races ably abetted by that menace of the right, the bloodsucker of the stock market, Bernie Sanders. It's really quite funny if those afflicted didn't take themselves so seriously. According to them, any moment social chaos will erupt as hordes of antifa masked ninjas swoop down from the lamposts and steal everybody's goodies, executing capitalists on sight. Forget the gathering hordes of armed proto-fascists in their camouflage working on plans to kidnap politicians. That's O.K. It's the unseen menace of the reds under the bed who are about to turn the US into Communist China. Difficult to take seriously but it seems to work politically. Perhaps Americans are easily frightened or not.
