Robert Robb, like a tired Pontius Pilate, washed his hands of the impeachment trial calling it a debacle, just another way to further inflame the political divide. I have to differ. The trial allowed Americans to explore issues dear to their hearts, the checks and balances which hedge abuse of power. A line was drawn and the system, though it did not convict, was shown to be robust and healthy. The pillars of Congress may have swayed on their foundations but the building held. A President, democrat or republican can be held accountable. Mitt Romney's speech at the trial was profoundly moving by contrast to the whirligig verbal gymnastics of the defense. Whatever our political sympathies all politicians must weigh their consciences and beliefs against political expediency. Our political process will always be partisan that is the way it was set up to be. It doesn't take much to tilt the balance. Surely there would be something wrong if we all to agreed with each other. Democracy has to be fought for. Washing our hands or showing indifference are not alternatives. Now we must vote.
