In the middle of a pandemic with thousands of people dying, Americans came out onto the streets and protested at a grave injustice. They said clearly and unequivocally. No... you will not do this to us. You will not stamp on our necks, you will not discriminate on the grounds of the color of skin or economic background. You will not shoot the innocent. You will not use your power against the defenseless. We must all revisit the past, see ourselves as we are and have been and make a better, stronger society because we understand what was deeply wrong. Democracy is the will of the people, not a minority. And in that moment I was proud of my country. We are not China. We are not Russia. We are a democracy.
