AFGHANISTAN (8/14)

Looks as if Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan is a disaster. The government, though propped up with American cash and arms, has little will to fight. The Taliban are walking in with only minimal resistance. Women can look forward to the burka and staying at home. Joining the 21st century or even the 20th is not going to be an option for the country. The attitudes of local Taliban commanders are little removed from those held by ISIS leaders. There will be executions. Prepare for hand chopping and the stoning of women to death. Back to the Dark Ages. Ironically American arms have kept the peace around the world with bases in Japan, South Korea, Germany, etc. since WW2. Maybe Afghanistan needs to be cut loose and emerge as a new Muslim state like Pakistan, or Iraq, or Syria fought over by its different ethnic and religious groupings. Maybe after 20 years of trying and dying, we needed to step back. Not worth the cost of blood and treasure. Maybe a new state will emerge from the ashes and from the blood spilled at this ancient crossroads of Asia. Is it some consolation the British also failed? The last to succeed was Alexander. A long time ago. Sadly we shall see.
