DISENGENUOUS DOUG DUCEY (3/11)

Americans are a generous and tolerant people. They are empowered by their system of representative government to believe that their democracy works. When the right time comes, politicians deemed to have failed are voted out of power. If there's opposition during tenure and enough signatures are gathered, they can be removed. There have been two failed attempts to recall Doug Ducey, Arizona's governor. Under his leadership over 16,000 have died from COVID-19. That we have one of the highest infection and death rates in the country seems to have been swept under the carpet. The constant cry in the early days of the pandemic last year was that the economy would suffer if there was a harsh shutdown. Governor Ducey went largely MIA. Hospitals filled, infections reached 829,000, our death rate was for a time the worst in the country per head of population and killed many of the most vulnerable. And the Governor now sails merrily on with a cheery smile. In Melbourne Australia, capitol of the State of Victoria, which is about the same size and population as Arizona, 820 deaths. 20,483 infections. They are open for business. They too are a democracy. Does our Governor get a free pass?
