FREEDOM! (12/11)

It never ceases to amaze me that Republicans tout as their major platform, the idea of freedom. Freedom from taxation, freedom to spend their hard earned money on what they want, freedom to carry military style weapons, freedom to educate their children in schools of their choice, freedom to catch COVID and not be vaccinated and the freedom to put as much CO2 into the atmosphere as they damn well like. More importantly, they defend the freedom to write and say whatever comes into their heads. They are the party of freedom. Reaganism at its most sublime. Despite this love of freedom, however, they feel the need to introduce voting restrictions for fear of becoming the minority party. Women should not have the freedom to make decisions about their bodies. Schools should not have the freedom to teach the "wrong" books. American history must be sanitized for unpatriotic ideas. Society must be kept free of socialist ideas. Muslims and colored people should not be free to express ideas which run counter to Republican idealism. In our desire to follow the law, largely written by white people, have we lost the distinction between freedom and license? - A question worth thinking about.
