If you aspire to be a successful pundit and have your opinions published regularly like Rich Lowry, there are rules. It is important to pick a side, either right or left. Then pick on someone from the other side and bring them down to size. Today it was Ron Klain's turn. Make sure your criticisms are vague and unsubstantiated but establish that person as hypocritical, biased, part of a "feeding frenzy." It's not too difficult to find contradictions. Always attack the President, because he is from the opposite party and this will appeal to your readers who are of a similar political persuasion. Use such words as "incompetent, shameless, dishonest." Sweeping generalizations are important: "the press is blatantly biased." False analogies are useful to make it sound as if you have a firm grasp of history. Never ever be specific. Don't mention for example that the withdrawal date and the agreement with the Taliban was made by the previous President. Do find some nice juicy incidents picked out at random which will work at an emotional level. Use as few facts are possible but lots of rhetorical flourishes. Never worry about being unbiased yourself as long as it keeps your punters happy.
