THE AMERICAN WAY (10/08)

If my memory serves me correctly, every time Democrats get voted into power in Washington with promises to bring in affordable health care, or Social Security or Medicare or measures which might improve the lives of the people generally like child care, education or improved infrastructure and the environment, Republicans go into their hissy fit mode. The press is cranked up to churn out editorial after editorial warning everyone that this will break the bank, we'll all be destitute, begging on the streets. America will be destroyed by left wing radicals. Today's three editorials are a good example. Republicans are quietly coy about what they will spend our money on. $715B on defense? Not a problem. Important industry. Bombs! $70B tax relief on mortgages? Not a problem. A $1.2T tax cut for the rich and overseas investors. Peanuts...just crank up the debt. Super rich don't pay taxes. America has to be run by the rich for the rich. Republican philosophy towards the middle class and the poor? Let's see how much more money we can suck out of them. They must work harder for less so that we can be richer. Just tell them that this is the American way. It's not supposed to be fair.
