What is it in the American culture that allows a man like Trump to brag that he could shoot someone in the street and get away with it? He has been instrumental in the deaths of half a million and supported by 70 million Americans. Are we all that naive? Are we so used to salesmen to be so easily fooled? Is the American character so trusting and willing to be caught up in the dream of success that it will abandon all rationality, all critical thinking? Do we forgive him for being a sexual predator, of using money as a commodity just to feel good - the plane, the hotel, the properties used as leverage to create more wealth? Is that it? Is he Midas turning everything he touched to gold, even his food? Beside the wealth what is there? Emptiness? Shadows? Mortality? He has the fame, the trappings of success, stuff. So what does he really want? To be punished because he was never loved? Is his punishment to be who he is? Who knows? The storming of the Capitol was about everything he could not have. How to love or be loved are beyond him. He is consumed by anger and self-disgust. Words or friendship mean nothing. 43 senators bought his lies and sadly America is the poorer for it.
