For a year we've been wrestling with COVID-19. We have a Governor, who has done his best to distract the population by bragging about what he has achieved for the economy. Leadership has been MIA. When the going got tough he disappeared down a rabbit hole. Caught between the looney leaning rural right and the lefty leaning suburbs, he has tried to walk a tightrope and even with 807,000 infections and coming up to 16,000 deaths, is still in office. He would never admit publicly he made any mistakes or resign because of incompetence. His political trust rests on the simple philosophy, "The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of thousands is a statistic." So I ask the question are we ready for our Governor to lead us through the existential crisis of global warming which will last much longer than a year? Does he have a plan? Does he know there's a problem? The disasters in Texas and California should be warning signals. What are the dangers we face? Do we have enough water? Can we cope with higher temperatures? Will our forests burn? Is agriculture protected or do we do just do as we have done and tabulate the body count, shrug our shoulders and pretend it's not a problem?
