As a well-practiced journalist and committed Republican, Robert Robb knows perfectly well how to write a good smokescreen. How do you write an editorial commenting on the COVID policies of Governor Ducey and justify them sympathetically? Blame is portioned out diplomatically. Ducey did what he could within the law and the constitutional powers of the Governorship. The tone is one of reasonableness. The laws were inadequate to the task. The legislature needs to revise the emergency powers. Not one mention of numbers of the dead or infection rates. No mention of using the Governorship to encourage and persuade Arizonans on behavior which might have saved their lives, like masking and social distancing. Arizonans had to have their liberty to infect others protected. After all, Ducey had to avoid criticism from the Trump faithful whose mindlessness believed COVID was nothing to worry about. Drink Clorox and take horse medicine, and throw that upstart Dr. Fauci in jail. 29,681 dead Governor Ducey, one of the highest rates in the country and the world. On your watch Governor Ducey. Did you do enough? The numbers do not appear to bother Robb or Ducey. After all, the dead don't vote.
