Being Republican (9/21)

The conduct of certain Arizona Republican politicians never ceases to amaze. They continue lying about elections and support a man who tried to overthrow our democratic system of government by force. Some undermine their own party and give support to right wing extremists and fringe groups whose only mantra is hatred. They wrap themselves in the American flag pretending to be patriots as if they are doing this out of love for America and the Constitution. If Democrats did even half of what these Republicans and their supporters are doing, they would be labelled communists and probably prosecuted. Anti-American would be the mildest epithet thrown at them. Now these so-called Republican patriots want to throw spanners into the economy by shutting down the government. This will hurt everybody. Why do they do it? Because they can. Because we live in a democracy and they are protected by laws. Fascist or Communist dictatorship is alien to the American way. Democracy, however messy, must prevail as it has done for over two hundred years. We must all stay true to the belief "that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth."
