Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 counts in a NY court by twelve jurors chosen and agreed on by both sides. The evidence was presented. Witnesses testified under oath. Prosecutors and defenders made their cases. The jury deliberated and came to their decision. This is the American legal process, the cornerstone of our democracy. Trial by jury. We are all entitled to that process. Nobody is above the law. Subsequently members of the Republican Party have disputed the verdict, and challenged the process. The GOP has always been known for its support of law and order and is now questioning the validity of that legal system. This gives support to those trying to undermine our constitution and way of life. What both saddens and frightens is that the editorial board on the Arizona Republic on the Sunday after the verdict publishes editorials on Ports of Entry, Pot Production in Surprise and Progressives objecting to a Republican packed Arizona Supreme Court's decision on abortion. The silence is as loud as it can be. As Sir Thomas More said "Qui tacet consentire" - the maxim of the law is "Silence gives consent."
