American Masochism (11/7)

I can't be the only one alarmed by the results of this election. Watching and listening to the farcical goings on at the Trump rallies, his mouth bleating streams of incoherent populist nonsense and then a majority of Americans voting to make him President again only confirms suspicions that Americans like pain. The ability to understand, rationalize and weigh up a candidate's character and suitability for high office from his statements and past actions proved to be a futile exercise on the part of Democrats. Christ on his donkey would have been left in the dust by the speeding Trump truck. Those who voted for Trump must surely enjoy their victory. Middle America has spoken. The New American Fascism is now politics as usual. Life and politics reduced to cartoon characters, intellectually at about the level of a Marvel comic which is exactly how the Republican leadership portrayed itself on posters in the final week. If those who wrote Project 2025 get their way, government as we know it will be replaced with party commissars and those loyal to the Trump ideology whatever that might be and ousting anyone suspected of disloyalty. Orwell's 1984 has finally arrived, a tad later than he predicted. Big Brother knows best.
