Elon Musk's support for the German right wing party should come as no surprise. His purchase and restructuring of Twitter to fit his own views and subsequent backing for Donald Trump were predictable. Born in 1971 in South Africa, Musk is the child of apartheid, growing up, white and privileged at a time of tumultuous politics and deep racial divide. Think Nelson Mandela's 27 years in prison and the shameful death of Steve Biko. Under the weight of the black majority, white rule in South Africa crumbled and no amount of black racial homelands, incarceration and brutality was going to work. A civil war was averted by a whisker. Add to that mixture the white racist attitudes of the Dutch Reformed Church, which like its Calvinist offshoots in the US, bolster right wing nativist beliefs and you have Elon Musk' political and social views. More than 5 million people left Germany for the U.S. during the 19th century. The US was always a refuge for white non-conformist religions. Fear mongering of anyone of a different skin shade worked perfectly in the latest elections.
