Jon Gabriel calls on conservatives to restore the "American way," which suggests the only way is American. His philosophy about politics is general cynicism. He thinks it's just about personalities, that candidates are a necessary evil, that politicians break their promises and Reagan's "three legged stool" is splintered. (Reagan did have some memory problems after getting shot.) G.K. Chesterton, who Jon quotes, also said, "I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite," which sort of undermines Jon's advice. No editorial from Jon, however, would be complete without a good dose of gloom and doom. "Southern border shattered," "violent crime," vast "national debt," "single parent mothers." He ends with a final plea. "We need to restore our freedom, our family and our constitutional order." He should not worry, our freedom and constitutional order are being nicely undermined by the Supreme Court and Maga Republicans and my family is just as dysfunctional or not as his. My advice? Cheer up! Stop being negative. Try to look on the bright side of life and vote for good men and women.
