Change Comes Slowly in America (5/31)

Donald Trump's conviction in NY is an historic event even more so after he bragged in 2016 that "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose any voters." That a swathe of the American population swallow his populist call and believe what he says is frightening. Surely Americans are not that gullible? I suppose that by giving him their undying support and lining his coffers with their hard earned cash means they can't be wrong, that faith in Donald Trump is that, faith, undying to the end. Their innocence and lack of skepticism are like deeply held religious beliefs. By wrapping himself in the American flag, he helps to reinforce his supporters' patriotism, their love for America. Surely a man so rich, so successful, so deeply patriotic, so attractive to women could not break the law? If a jury finds he did, then there's something deeply wrong with the law and the jury. The outrageousness of his claims of persecution, his tirades against the system and his anger reinforce that sense of injustice and theirs. There is no answer or solution, except for time itself which brings us all down in the end whether we like it or not.
