The Trump Phenomenon (6/27)

I try to understand the Trump phenomenon. It can't be just him. "How can people be so blind?" I say to myself. He is a con man, a snake oil salesman. He tells lie on lie on lie, has been convicted of rape, is a convicted felon and people, ordinary good Americans, suck it up and believe his nonsense. Is it his showmanship? Is it his wealth? The rallies are obviously carefully manipulated except where he tries to speak off the cuff. What leads good people into folly? Is it years and years of watching TV and never being required to think or question or doubt? Is it because they are brought up to be optimistic, and passionate and loving? Is it the education system where the only emphasis in on getting a job which pays well or being on the football team? I don't know. Is there something in the National character that makes Americans vulnerable? The National Food, the burger is a especially crafted to make them diabetic and fat. At their best Americans are brilliant. They are talent in the raw, untouched by cynicism or doubt, so different to the French or British or Germans. Trump's presidency was a disaster. Another four years feels to me like harakiri, a slow ritual suicide.
