Reading and listening to the words of some of the more "outlier" politicians, I find that some of their language frequently borders on the inflammatory and intellectually odd and lacks objectivity and context. The Wadsackization and Gosarization of our political discourse seems to be becoming mainstream. When I looked up educational backgrounds, I was not surprised by its thinness. How does a career in pest control, real estate, dentistry, ophthalmology or reading the news prepare an individual to lead a society in this modern complex world? The founding fathers, in order to write the Constitution, were well read and educated. Intelligence and education matter. Populism depends on ignorance and the inability to think rationally and logically. Now, sadly, for many politicians slogans have become the principal weapon and a tool to stir the emotions and prejudices of the many. Thanks to the internet, strange ideas have become mainstream. A sensible politician talking rationally is no longer newsworthy. The semi-hysterical, slogan screaming politician gets the attention. Hopefully in November we will find out which side is listened to.
