Phil Boas's editorial celebrating Trump's victory was disturbing. "Trump goes to Washington as Ceaser (misspelt) went to the Nile and MacArthur went to the Philippines -- as a conquering warrior." Which Caesar? Julius or Augustus? Julius got stabbed in the Senate because he tried to undermine Roman democracy. Augustus became emperor and his death ushered in a period of chaos after a relatively successful reign. MacArthur was a defeated general of military intelligence and ability but with no foot spurs. Does Trump's ear being grazed by a bullet make him a hero? What does that make Kennedy? Boas's argument continued down another rabbit hole. The "inauguration shows his warrior side." More likely it shows his narcissitic and insensitive side. He moved it indoors because he was scared of the crowd size. Trump never mentioned annexing other countries during his campaign. How would we feel if Russia told us they wanted to take back Alaska? Or if UK wanted it's colonies back? Aren't Greenland and Canada our NATO allies? "We're not going to play your patsies anymore." Boas is back in his verbal playground echoing Trump's racist memes. The cartels are coming for us. Tremble. I am the silent generation. So what?
