The New America (3/03)

Reading today's Arizona Republic one might get the impression that the goings on in The White House were invisible or at least not important enough to report on. The truth is less comfortable since we will all have to bear the consequences of the decisions and choices made by our President and his administration. Unfortunately we witnessed the President and his Vice sticking a knife into our Republic and getting away with it. The public humiliation of Zelensky, a guest and previously welcome ally trying to defend his country, was like watching the death of civil society and the ideals of American democracy. How would we have felt if Roosevelt had invited Churchill to the White House to tell him that he wouldn't be around long if the UK didn't make a deal with Hitler? But this is all different. This is the new "gangsta" American diplomacy. "Do as we say or we'll be friends with the people you are fighting. Don't forget we paid for the weapons you're using. Get it?" "We're taking over Canada and Greenland." "It's the Gulf of America. Understand?" "You Palestinians gotta move outta Gaza. We want to build Hotels." "You wanna come to America? No problem. Only 5 million dollars."
