A Modern Love Song

I've told you all my secrets
I've told you my wicked past
I've whispered in your ear each night
That it was never meant to last.
So forgive me if I leave you
Now at the break of day
There are paths and roads to travel
And I fear I cannot stay.

Other dawns will come again my love
Other lovers stir the heart
Now is the time to drink the draught
The moment that we part.
Come rain or shine or wind or fog
Come pain and sorrow's edge
Memory will warm us still
Of the moments that we pledge.

This is the way it is my love
The way it was meant to be
A transitory meeting
Just between you and me.
