Breathing

I suspected and am now convinced
That God is but a word.
A short word
Full of color, rhetoric and choice
And stories robed in sweet
Language's many tones and rifts
To give the nobody a power
He never would have won
Through reason's steady gifts.

I am amazed and also sad
That we should argue or disagree.
Surely this sweet moment's breathing air
Is not so bad?
