It's a new world now
Not like the old one
full of anxiety
we've a pill now for everything
even loneliness
Now we can look forward
to being senile and
sitting in our wheelchair
dribbling at the mouth
the nurse asking us how we are
and knowing the answer
good medical care should
keep us in this state for years
slowly winding down
waiting for something to give out
and the pulse to stop
nothing to worry about
we've survived. That's the key.
That nurse has a nice figure
wish I could remember
what that was about
I think it was important
I read a Shakespeare play once
can't remember what it was about
it was boring I remember that
words on a page
I am looking forward to lunch
it's mince again
in a puddle of gravy
with mashed potatoes and carrots
easy on the stomach
I think it's Thursday
could be wrong
it might be Friday
Then the weekend
it's a new world now.
