The Joke

Not much out there that's funny
These days. Not much to laugh about
though a man walking on water is strange
because it shouldn't really happen

An emperor was upset and executed alot of
people one week to set an example
it was the times. They're testy.
It wasn't funny and didn't make me laugh

The body is funny, particularly the belly button
a strange place, collecting fluff and bits
a reminder of how weird life can be
if one gets too attached

And then it all stops, and beauty opens up
Like a flower and a hundred different birds sing
A thousand songs and you watch a spider
Spinning its tricky little web in hope

you see the stars and the blue sky
and gaze out there into the beyond
and hear a great chuckle
as you begin slowly to understand the joke
