The Song of Life

You catch it in the rhythm
Of the songs of Solomon
Voices of souls long gone

Short breaths or last breaths
A heaving of the lungs
A word or two before the night

Lovers in a dream of Acheron
Armies of the dead marching
Over plains and seas
A mighty noise of exultation and then a cry.

We lived and loved
The best we could
We fought and challenged time
This is our contribution
To you and all mankind

It's your turn now
The voices cried
To see what you can do
The song of life is all we know
We came, we saw, we died
