Here in no man's land
Having advanced bravely
In good order against the enemy
Family, friends and lovers already
Falling by the wayside
Each dropped in turn by a single bullet
But deeply mourned
It's Time to go over the top again
For the next battle.
No good cowering here
Calling for covering fire
Sweaty hands clutching the Lee Enfield
The bayonet glinting in the sunlight
Shells bursting overhead
Maybe I'll get a Blighty
And a pretty nurse will sew me together
Or a shell from nowhere
Will make me just disappear.
Courage , blow the whistle, charge
As per the manual
All for the love of family and country
We're going over the top again
And we're not coming back.
We're doing our duty
Aren't we?
